West Wrexham Urban II Programme

The West Wrexham Urban II Programme was a European funded regeneration initiative which focused on the development of an entrepreneurial and participating community. A total of £16million (including £6.8 million from the European Regional Development Fund) was spent between 2000 and 2006 to support new and existing businesses in West Wrexham to overcome the barriers that prevent people from accessing employment opportunities.

Welcome to the West Wrexham Urban II Programme 2000 - 2008

The West Wrexham Urban II Programme was a European funded community regeneration initiative which focused on the development of an entrepreneurial and participating community.

A total of £16million (including £6.8million from the European Regional Development Fund) was spent between 2000 and 2006 on projects in West Wrexham.  29 project applications were approved for a variety projects ranging from summer play schemes and business grants to multi-million pound resource centres.

These projects all aimed to, and still support new and existing business and help people overcome barriers to accessing employment and taking part in their community.

The West Wrexham area consists of 9 wards:

  • Brymbo (including Tanyfron)
  • Gwenfro
  • Gwersyllt
  • Gwersyllt North
  • Gwersyllt East and South
  • Bryn Cefn
  • Llay
  • Coedpoeth
  • New Broughton

Although the URBAN II Programme has now finished the legacy of the Programme continues through the West Wrexham Partnership and its continuing projects and future plans.
