The Process and Criteria Regarding The Appointment of LEA Governors

Process - (Confirmed by Council on 15 November 2007)

  1. Clerk informs Governor Services of vacancy (two months prior to the end of term of office)
  2. Governor Services send out monthly notification to all elected members of all vacancies and a nomination form with a return date
  3. Elected members return the completed and signed nomination form to Governor Services by the due date
  4. If the number of nominations is not greater than the number of vacancies, the Chief Learning and Achievement Officer may authorise the appointment on behalf of the Council
  5. If the number of nominations is greater that the number of vacancies, a report will be drafted for the Executive Board to determine the appointments.

If you are interested in seeking nomination as an LEA Governor - please check that you fulfil the criteria outlined below and contact your local Member (Councillor) of Wrexham Council.

Criteria - (Confirmed by Council on 15 November 2007)

Individuals nominated as LEA governors should be able to demonstrate:

  • a commitment to and an interest in education;
  • a desire to support the school concerned;
  • a willingness to serve the local community;
  • skills and experience which will support the work of the school;
  • the ability to work as a member of a team;
  • the required degree of discretion and confidentiality;
  • a willingness to give of the required time and to re-arrange personal commitments to fulfil their obligations to the Governing Body;
  • an empathy with the linguistic and cultural diversity of the County Borough, particularly in support of the Welsh language;
  • a willingness to support the aspirations and strategic intentions of the County Borough.

In addition, LEA nominees should not -

  • knowingly be disqualified from serving as a school governor;
  • be an employee of the school.
