The Economic Development Department of the local authority established Wrexham ITeC in 1983 as a non-profit making organisation with the prime purpose of supporting the economic infrastructure of the area. This was through putting in place training programmes to support the needs of industry and commerce.
Though training is predominantly Information Technology based, involving Microsoft products and the Internet, areas such as Business Administration, Customer Service and generic skills – CV writing, Key Skills, Job Search and Interview Technique etc. are also covered. The emphasis within the organisation has always been on quality and this was recognised in 1992 with the achievement of ISO 9001 followed by Investor in People in 1994.
Wrexham ITeC offers a range of Information Technology courses, at competitive prices, to businesses and organisations wishing to train their staff on specific areas ie databases, spreadsheets, Powerpoint, Word Processing etc.
Another part of Wrexham ITeC’s repertoire is operating a Modern Apprenticeship programme, both Foundation and Advanced for employed of all ages. These frameworks, Key Skills, NVQ levels II & III and Technical Certificates, covering Information Technology, Business Administration and Customer Service, are free to employers and the entire facilitation, training, assessment and administration is carried out by Wrexham ITeC.
The ITeC is an accredited a European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Centre and can organise courses and examinations for clients. Many companies and organisations are using the ECDL as its basic standard for the computer knowledge of its employees.
Wrexham ITeC also offer courses (subject to conditions) for the unemployed, women returning to the workplace, 16 and 17 year olds, over 50s and those who have become unemployed as a result of a large scale notifiable redundancy.
If a company has problems recruiting employees, particularly those in a junior role, then Wrexham ITeC may be able to help. Drawing on a pool of work-ready trainees, Wrexham ITeC can give further support with the provision of fully subsidised Modern Apprentice, NVQ based training.
Wrexham ITeC’s remit is to help and support the industrial and commercial sectors of the area and, through this, assist in the development of the local economy.
It is here to help. If Wrexham ITeC cannot help directly, then it knows someone who can!
