Wrexham ITeC - Information Technology Qualification

Information Technology Qualification (ITQ)

The brand new ITQ replaces the traditional IT NVQ and has been carefully designed to meet the needs of both the candidate and their employer.

Unlike the traditional NVQ, no prior knowledge is needed as evidence is gathered both in the workplace and whilst on courses delivered by Wrexham ITeC.

The ITQ is suitable for anyone working in an office environment, including people working in IT/IS Departments.

At Level 2

The level 2 ITQ gives you a good all round knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. This is facilitated via the ECDL qualification. A small amount of portfolio building is required in addition to this, in order to prove you can apply some of these skills as part of your job. This qualification proves to your employer that you are familiar with a variety of Microsoft Office packages.

At Level 3

The level 3 ITQ gives you an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Excel. This is facilitated via the BCS Level 3 Diploma in IT. A small amount of portfolio building is required in addition to this to demonstrate your ability to use additional IT skills as part of your job. These range from creating presentations to the installation of upgrades to hardware. Your ITQ assessor would help you choose the most appropriate units.

The ITQ is different to traditional NVQ’s as it combines learning with existing occupational competence. It’s a chance to gain both vocational and academic qualifications at the same time.

The relevant courses are offered on either a one-day a month basis or a two-day a month basis and courses last between one and two years. This time will obviously be dramatically reduced if the learner already holds the ECDL version 4 or BCS Diploma in IT qualifications.
