Wrexham ITeC – NVQ

Wrexham ITeC provides a number of work based Foundation Modern and Modern Apprenticeships – FMA and MA.

Apprenticeships are nationally recognised work based learning programmes which offer learners the opportunity to enhance their skills through a combination of work based learning and training.

Apprenticeship frameworks are made up of three elements:

  • The “core” National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
  • Essential Skills Wales
  • Technical Certificate

The frameworks are fully subsidised, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) who, in turn draw on the European Social Fund (ESF).

Foundation Modern Apprenticeships incorporate NVQ Level 2, equivalent to 4–5 GCSE’s at grades A–C.

Modern Apprenticeships include an NVQ at Level 3, equivalent to two A Levels.

National Vocational Qualification

Nationally recognised awards based on demonstrating competence in the workplace against nationally agreed standards. Evidence is gathered in a number of ways including assessment and training in the workplace, witness statements, professional discussion and reports. Vocationally competent assessors will visit the candidate in the work place to assess the gathered evidence of competence.

Essential Skills Wales

A range of functional skills that can be applied to enhance the work experience. There are six Skills – which can be achieved at an appropriate level:

Essential Skills Wales

  • Application of Number
  • Communication
  • Information Technology

Wider Key skills

  • Improving own learning
  • Working with others
  • Problem Solving

Technical Certificates

An integral part of all the NVQ Frameworks offered by Wrexham ITeC. They quantify the underpinning knowledge of the NVQ Framework to which they are linked.
