Wrexham Student Assistance Programme (SAP)

Welcome to Wrexham SAP (Student Assistance Programme). SAP is a comprehensive school-based programme for children and young people aged between 4 – 19yrs.

SAP’s purpose is to create a safe place in Wrexham schools where pupils can share feelings, thoughts and concerns about their lives and to provide support whilst they work through any difficulties that may impede their development, education and life chances.

Cheryl Watkins M.A. is the founder of the programme and Executive Director of Student Assistance Training International (SATI). She has been developing the programme worldwide for the past 30 yrs. Wrexham has been working with Cheryl since 2001 and we are proud to boast that we are the only Local Authority outside of the U.S.A. that has been licensed by Cheryl, to train as trainers.

Quotes from the training.

2 young people said:

“The support group has helped me tp open up. It has helped me to achieve more e.g. confidence, not scared to have a go at things.”

“It is very helpful and supportive knowing that some people have the same problems."

Adult Facilitators said of the training:

“It enables teachers to respect the “whole” of our pupils needs, not just the academic.”

“It changes your life and allows you to see yourself and others in a new way – also to realise how important it is to help our children so they can learn.”
