School Uniform Grant

  • Who can apply for it?
    Parents/Guardians who have children of Secondary School Age.

  • When can I apply for the grant?
    The forms will be available from June 2008

  • Is there a closing date?
    The closing date is 30 April 2009.

  • Who do I contact?
    Student Support Tel: 01978 297406. 
    The forms are available below or you can collect one from the Children and Young People Service, Ty Henblas, Queens Square, Wrexham LL13 8AZ

  • Can all parents get the grant?
    No, only those who are in receipt of the certain benefits

  • What are the benefits?
    - Income Support
    - Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
    - Immigration and Asylum Seekers Allowance
    - Pension Credit
    - Child Tax Credit with and income below £15,575 and not in receipt of
    Working Family Tax Credit.

    You must provide us with proof of your entitlement which must be dated no earlier than 2 months prior to your application. Without this your application cannot be processed.

  • How do I apply?
    You can download a form below or pick up an application form from the Children and Young People Service, Ty Henblas, Queens Square, Wrexham LL13 8AZ.

  • How much is the Grant worth?
    £35 for every child

  • How is it paid to parents?
    It is paid directly into your bank account but for this to happen you will need to complete another form authorising us to do so.

  • Where do I get the form to supply my bank details?
    The same place as the application form

  • I don’t have a bank account or one that will accept direct payments
    We can only pay the School Uniform Grant into the applicant's bank account. If the applicant does not have a bank account a School Uniform Grant Voucher will be issued.

  • Where can I use the Voucher?
    You can use it in the schools as well as the major shops in Wrexham town.

  • Is there anything else I can apply for?
    Yes, the Welsh Assembly Government also gives out grants towards the cost of School Uniform but only if your child is in their first year of Secondary School.

  • How much is the grant worth?
    £100.00

  • When can I apply for the grant?
    The forms will be available from June 2008.

  • How do I apply for that grant?
    In the same way you apply for the Council Uniform Grant. It is paid the same way as the Council Grant. For Year 7 pupils who move to a secondary school maintained by a different Authority i.e. a secondary school outside the Wrexham County Borough, parents will need to make application to the maintaining authority for the secondary school in question (this only applies at Year 7).
