We all know that driving a car is bad for the environment and is a major contributor towards climate change. However you don’t have to give up your car completely! There are many ways to increase the fuel efficiency of your car and reduce the carbon emissions from driving that do not cost a penny and will actually save you some money! Here are some top tips for carbon and fuel efficient driving:
- Try and drive at lower speeds in a higher gear. Change up a gear when the revolutions per minute (rpm) reach between 2000-2500
- Slow down: Higher speeds = more fuel consumption and carbon emissions
- Drive smoothly by anticipating the road ahead and avoiding harsh breaking
- Check your tyre pressure as under inflated tyres increase fuel consumption

Why not try giving up your car for one day a week? What about trying the morning commute on public transport? You might find it more relaxing and enjoyable! There are a wealth of bus and train networks right across the county borough. So why not take a day trip out on the bus to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage Site or jump on the train to Chirk and pay a visit to Chirk Castle.
For cycling enthusiasts why not try National Route 85 and National Route 84? These run alongside the Llangollen Canal and are traffic free (see Sustrans link for more information).
And finally there are many benefits to simply going for a walk. There are many walks in Wrexham which are suitable for all abilities so why not check them out? There could be one just around the corner from you!
