Successful bid to Heritage Lottery FundThe refurbishment works for Ponciau Banks funded by the Heritage lottery Fund, Rhos Community Council, Wrexham Council and the Friends of Ponciau, has commenced in July 2008.
The works will take approximately 3 months to complete with shrub and tree planting taking place after this in the Autumn to Spring 2009. At times parts of the parks will be not accessible to the public. Wrexham Council will attempt to keep disruption to a minimum, with the Children's Play Area and BMX track being kept open when ever possible. The public right of way running from Baptist Street to Peter Street will also be kept open when ever possible. Further notice will be provided if it becomes necessary to temporarily close this path.
Plans of the park development can be viewed at the Rhos Community Council Office, Y Stiwt and at the Park Pavilion.
The Council thank you for your co-operation whilst this work goes on.
Wrexham County Borough Council and the Friends of Ponciau Banks Park community group secured confirmation of £504,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund in Spring 2007.
The Lottery funding will be used to fully refurbish Ponciau Banks Park to the splendour of its 1950’s heyday.
The works will see:
To open and improve views from the Park it is necessary to carry out essential tree works to remove poor or diseased trees in the Park.

Artist in Residency ProjectFunded jointly by Wrexham County Borough Council and Cywaith Cymru Artwork Wales, the Artist in Residency Project occurred in Autumn 2006 and Summer 2007.
The stone sculptures produced represent input from the Ponciau and Rhos communities, and draw out local stories and history associated with the area.
Across the project, the stone sculptor, Anthony Lysycia also worked with over 300 people of all ages to create stones carved by the community.
The stone sculptures are to be positioned at three key entrances to the Park. The ‘Rhos Bowling Club’ and ‘Music & Mining’ sculptures were installed in August 2007, with the installation of the Celebration Entrance sculptures scheduled for installation in Spring/Summer 2008 during the refurbishment works.
The Rhos Bowling Pavilion is situated onsite and is a very popular facility.
We hope to continue to expand the bowling provision, and particularly welcome new members at any level, through coaching and open events.
If you are interested in the Bowling Club, please call Phil Lloyd, Club Secretary, 01978 841632.
Once refurbished, the courts will offer coaching sessions and opportunities for the public and visitors to play matches.
The pitches are well-used, and there is a pavilion and changing room onsite for organised matches.
The play area is designed for toddlers and the junior age groups, and is fenced off to prevent access by dogs.
The area contains toddler swings, a round-about, spring mobiles, a Nexus core climbing frame, a rotating bar, toddler and junior climbing frames and slides. Junior Swings will be provided at a later date.
Once refurbished, the bandstand will have a removable roof and power supply to increase opportunities to use it for music and theatrical events.
The standing stone circle commemorates the Park being used as an eistedfodd site in 1961.

Join trained walk leaders for informal walks around Ponciau, Rhos, Johnstown and Penycae.
All walks will start and finish at the Rhos Bowling Pavilion, and last about an hour.
The walks will be a gentle taster to the benefits, ease and social enjoyment of walking and are open to all ages of the public.
A walk leader will be at the front and back of the walk so whatever your speed, you will not be alone.
So come and join the new walkers each Monday and get fit, get healthy, meet new people and learn a little more about the area.
Walkers are advised to wear sturdy flat shoes whatever the weather as flip flops or open sandals may not be appropriate for the muddy or grassy paths.
For more information on the walks please contact Natalie Edwards on (01978) 757524.
