Wrexham in Bloom Campaign 2008 - Calendar of Events

 

Calendar of Events

Join in with a host of gardening and ‘green’ activities across the Wrexham County Borough this year.  

Please contact individual event organisers for costs & further details:

Wrexham Fuchsia Society

Wrexham Fuchsia Society meets the first Wednesday in every month.  All welcome.  Meetings are held at Maesgwyn Community Centre in Wrexham.  Meetings begin at 7.30pm. Visitors may be asked to make a donation or buy a raffle ticket.

Public Rights of Way

Over 525 miles of public rights of way criss cross some of the finest landscape and heritage in the county borough. The right of access includes open country, common land and public forests, covering walking, running, bird-watching and picnicking but not cycling, horse riding, driving or camping.

March:

  • 1st March, Welsh food / craft/ arts event on Queens Square in celebration of St David’s Day.
  • 10th March, 8.00pm (held at Kings Head Pub, Bwlchgwyn), Bwlchgwyn Gardening Society: Sandie Attenburow talks on ‘Growing Wonderful Delphiniums’. Contact Ann on 01978 752710.

  • 14th March, Wrexham Farmers Market in Queens Square, Wrexham.
  • 26th March, 7.30pm (Community Room at Darland Sports Centre) Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society: ‘Four Seasons’ talk about flowers and birds throughout the year. Admission free to members, £2.00 for non-members.

April:

  • 14th April, 8.00pm (held at Kings Head Pub, Bwlchgwyn) Bwlchgwyn Gardening Society: Question & Answer Evening with Helen Yemm. Helen, the well-known gardener, garden designer and columnist from the Daily Telegraph, will be doing a question and answer evening entitled ‘Thorny Problems Live’.Tickets are £4.   • 18th April, Wrexham Farmers Market in Queens Square, Wrexham.
  • 30th April, 7.30pm (Community Room at Darland Sports Centre) Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society: ‘Growing Vegetables in Containers & Raised Beds’ talk and demonstration. Admission free to members, £2.00 for non-members.

May:

  • 1st May, Caia Park Gardening Competition opens to Caia Park residents. Call 0773 963 595 for further details, and how to enter.
  • 5th May, Caia Park Environmental Group: May Day Walk. Call 0773 963 595.
  • 7th May, 10.00 - 4.00pm, Alyn Waters, Compost Giveaway. Remember to bring some sacks and a shovel!

  • 12th May, 8.00pm (held at Kings Head Pub, Bwlchgwyn) Bwlchgwyn Gardening Society: Jack Swann talk on ‘Jodrell Bank Arboretum & its Natural History’. Contact Ann on 01978 752710.
  • 16th May, Wrexham Farmers Market in Queens Square, Wrexham.
  • 19th May, 7.30pm (Gresford Memorial Hall). I.M.A.G.E. group Annual General Meeting. For further details contact: hugh.sharp@virgin.net
  • 31st May, 10.30am (The Village Hall, Station Rd, Rossett) Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society: Spring Show, Plant Sale & WI Coffee Morning. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.00.

June:

  • 2nd June, 9.00am -3.00pm, Recycling Awareness Stand in Queens Square Market. Drop in and meet Recycling Officer, Catherine Knight and find out more about recycling as part of national Recycle Week 2008.
  • 14th June, 1.30pm, Nant Mill Country Park: River-dipping.
  • 15th June, 12.00 - 4.00pm, Bellevue Park: ‘One Planet’ day. NE Wales counties finish Wales Biodiversity week with a free day of environmental games, demonstrations, quizzes, music, face painting and bouncy castle. For further details call Emma Broad, 01978 292514.
  • 20th June, Wrexham Farmers Market in Queens Square, Wrexham.

July:

  • 5th July, Caia Park Environmental Group: Environmental Awareness Day. Call 0773 963 595.
  • 12th July, 11.00 -6.00pm: Prices Lane allotments open day through the National Garden Scheme. The chance to find out about allotments and growing. For further information contact Andrea Evans at marvellousgardens@btinternet.com.

  • 23rd August, 12-5.00pm (Darland Sports Centre) Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society: 59th Annual Show. Entrance is £2.00.

September:

  • 18th September, 6.30pm, Nant Mill Country Park: Come to this fascinating Bat Talk & spot the bats as dusk falls. Booking essential.
  • 19th September, Wrexham Farmers Market in Queens Square, Wrexham.

October:

  • 15th October, 7.30pm (The Village Hall, Station Rd, Rossett) Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society: BRHS AGM Meeting.
  • 17th October, Wrexham Farmers Market in Queens Square, Wrexham.
  • 31st October, 1.00- 3.00pm, Bellevue Park: Autumn walk and crafts. Meet at Bowls Pavilion.

November:

  • 15th November, 1.30-3.30pm, Alyn Waters Country Park: Build a bird box for your garden.
  • 21st November, Wrexham Farmers Market in Queens Square, Wrexham.
  • 26th November, 7. 30pm (The Village Hall, Station Rd, Rossett) Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society: Jean Roberts will be demonstrating flower arrangements for the Christmas season. Admission is free to members, £2.00 for non-members.

December:

  • 18th December, 10.30-12.00pm, Ty Mawr Country Park: Christmas Coffee Morning. Join the Ty Mawr rangers for tea/coffee and mince pies.
