Lyme Disease and Ticks

Lyme disease (also known as Borreliosis) is a bacterial infection that is spread to humans by infected ticks. It is a serious illness that, if left untreated, can be difficult to treat and even debilitating. However, in most cases, the infection is eliminated by antibiotics, especially if it is treated early.

Anyone who lives, works or visits the countryside – in particular woodland and heathland areas – is at risk of being bitten by a tick.

Knowing what the disease is and where it comes from can help to protect you.
