Planted Lime Trees at Wats Dyke Way
An old adage says "The best time to plant a tree is 30 years ago, the next best time to plant a tree is today!"
This winter Wrexham County Borough Council's Environment Department has been busy planting trees in the borough.
Trees have been planted to replace some of those that have been lost due to storm damage, disease or decay. It is the Councils policy to replace trees wherever it is practical to do so. The Council also carries out new tree planting to improve Wrexham's parks and green spaces.
Over 250 trees have been planted this winter and in many cases native species have been planted such as oak, ash, field maple and small leaved lime. Native species tend to be most beneficial for providing habitats for wildlife.
More exotic species have been used in some situations, tulip tree, swamp cypress, Serbian spruce and handkerchief tree to name a few.
Many residents appreciate the benefits that trees provide to their local environment and planting new or replacement trees will bring immediate benefits to people who work and live in Wrexham and leave a legacy for future generations.
In most cases we have planted trees that are already 3-4 metres tall to fend off damage from vandalism and to create immediate visual and environmental impact.
