About Wrexham County Borough
Situated
in north east Wales, bounded by the Clwydian Hills to the west and the
undulating Shropshire countryside to the south, the County Borough offers
an interesting and varied environment. Covering an area of 50,500 hectares
with a population of 125,000 the County Borough has plenty to offer whether
you are a tourist, potential resident or business seeking to expand or
relocate.
The local environment is one of Wrexham County Borough's greatest resources,
being an essential component in residents' quality of life and in the
successful development of local industrial and tourism initiatives.
Effective planning policies and sensitive development control ensure
that development and protection of the environment are carefully balanced.
The aim is to ensure that necessary changes will respect and complement
the character of the environment.
The Wrexham area has several designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest
which exist to protect special and exceptional flora, fauna, geological
and physiographical features. These sites complement a rich landscape
within diverse areas of countryside from the Ruabon Mountain set in the
Berwyn Range to the Ffirth Valley and parts of the Dee and Ceiriog Valleys.
Archaeological remains are an important part of the County Borough's
heritage and provide a record of the history and culture of the local
area. They are important both for the information they provide about the
past and for their role in education, leisure and tourism.
