How You Can Get Involved

 

Wrexham Sustainability Forum

The Wrexham Sustainability Forum is made up of voluntary groups, schools, local businesses, individuals, and the council, and brings all members of the community together to make a difference in the county borough. Established in November 1996 the Forum is registered as an environmental body with Environment Wales and the landfill tax regulator ENTRUST.

So far the Forum has been involved in:

  • Employing a community recycling officer since June 2002
  • Promoting of real nappies, community shredding and home composting
  • Hosting public meetings to discuss local waste management, Fairtrade and the Community Strategy
  • Holding an All-Wales conference 'Towards a Sustainable Wales' in November 1998
  • Production of the State of Wrexham's Environment report in 1997
  • Involvement in the production of the Wrexham Strategy for Sustainable Development in 2001
  • Co-ordinating the neighbourhood groups

Local Neighbourhood Groups

Local groups are people like YOU who want to get involved. If you'd like to make a difference to where you live then join your local group, or set one up with your neighbours. Recently local groups have been involved in:

  • community recycling
  • local cycle paths, rebuilding footpaths and traffic calming
  • creating a community garden
  • a childrens summer camp
  • litter picks and dog fouling campaign
  • environmental awareness competitions
  • regular village newsletters, web sites
