What is the Electoral Roll?
The Electoral Roll is a listing of all British Citizens who are registered to vote at elections. You do not have to vote on an election day (it is your choice) but if you are not listed on the Electoral Roll, then you will not have a choice and will not be able to vote.

Am I registered to vote?
To find out if you are registered to vote, contact the Electoral
Office on 01978 292020 or e-mail electoral@wrexham.gov.uk, who will then confirm the position in writing to you.

How can I register to vote?
If you are not already registered, or you have changed address, you can
register by completing
and returning a registration form.
Updates to the register are publised on the 1st of each month until preparations for the following year's register commence in August.
The form may not be returned electronically as a written signature is required.
It is not compulsory to transfer your registration and you may wish to remain registered at your previous address.

What if I am unable to get to a Polling Station?
If you are unable to get to a Polling Station on election day, you can make an Absent Vote. There are two types of Absent Vote:
Postal Vote: where your ballot paper is sent to you at an address which you request.
Proxy Vote: where you nominate someone to go to the Polling Station to vote on your behalf.
A postal vote for a particular election is available to anyone, and applicants need not state a reason for their request. Those with a long term illness and disability or those with work commitments can request a permanent absent vote for all elections.

What elections are there?
1. Borough Council
These elections are held every four years on the 1st Thursday in May. The next local government elections will be in May 2008.
Casual vacancies can sometimes occur due to factors such as retirement, illness or death. For further information on the Election process contact the electoral
office.
2. Community Council
These elections are held every four years on the 1st Thursday in May. The next local government elections will be in May 2008.

3. European Parliamentary Elections
These elections are held every five years in mid June. The next European Parliamentary elections will be held in May 2010.
4. Welsh Assembly Elections
These elections are held every five years in May. The next Welsh Assembly elections will be held
in May 2007.
5. Parliamentary Elections
Parliamentary elections, also known as General Elections, can be held at any time during a
government's five year term.
The most recent general election took place on 5 May, 2005.
