How do I find out if the Council owns a property or a piece of land?

I've heard that the land near my property is Common Land how can I find out?
The Common Land Maps/Register are held by the Legal and Administration Department located in Guildhall. The maps are available for public inspection during office hours, with no charge. To view the maps an appointment should be made with Mr Geoff Pilmoor, Land Charges/Claims Manager, on telephone number 01978 292214. A common land search can be made through a solicitor for the fee of £14.
