The first meetings of the Borough Council were held at Bryn y ffynnon house in hired rooms. In the 1880s the Council bought the old grammar school (pictured) on Chester Street and converted it into a guildhall.

The Council built a proper guildhall in 1961 on land at Llwyn Isaf, the site of the old vicarage.
