Visitor Information
Highlights of a visit to Bersham Ironworks include the excavated remains of the first blast furnace in Wales to smelt iron with coke, a unique survival of an 18th century wooden waggonway used to transport raw material to the works and tools and personal items found during the archaeological excavation. Displays tell the Ironworks' story and a light and sound presentation re-creates the typical workday of an 18th century foundryman.
John ‘Iron Mad’ Wilkinson was a leading figure in the Industrial Revolution. Explore this historic site set in the attractive Clywedog Valley. Discover how Wilkinson’s cannon foundry helped make steam engines that powered a new world. Guided tours available.
