People have given this plant many names from Donkey's Ears owing to the shape of the leaves to the most recent name - the Andrex plant. - owing to the softness and usefulness of its leaves.
It is used for treating coughs and bronchial complaints. Culpeper recommended "An Oyl of the flowers is of very good effect for the Piles, while the Pouder of the dried Roots being rubbed on rough Warts doth easily take them away."
