Closely related to the Fuller's Teasel (Dipsacus Sativus) used to tease out the separate fibres of wool before spinning. Also used in the preparation of finished cloth such as the green baize on billiard tables.

medical uses The water held by the large leaves of the teasel was said to have rejuvenating powers. Culpeper recommended "The distilled water of the leaves is often used by women to preserve their beauty".
size 1-2m (3-6ft)
flowering season July - August
distinguishing features The spikey seed heads with their pink to purple flowers. Note also its symmetrical structure.
