Mayor's Badge Wrexham gained its first mayor in 1857 when the town was 'incorporated'. The Borough Corporation's job was to improve the town and the well-being of its inhabitants.
Going by contemporary local press reports Wrexham in 1857 was seething with activity: this building was under construction, next door Mr Richard Thompson was paying for a new Catholic Church, the Anglicans were busy erecting St Mark's Church (since demolished for a multi-storey car park) and as the paper put it "the more opulent middle classes" were busy house building in 'the West End' of Wrexham.
