Volunteering at Wrexham County Borough Museum and Archives Service

Welcome to volunteering at Wrexham County Borough Museum and Archives Service. This page will help you learn more about what is a volunteer, how you can help, our volunteer programme, what volunteer roles are available and what to do next.

What is a volunteer?

Volunteers are people who offer their time freely, on an unpaid basis for the benefit of society and the community.

How can you help?

We actively seek volunteers to help us expand the work we do. We offer both public facing and behind the scenes roles. All roles are crucial to enhancing the visitor experience.

Public facing

You could be volunteering in our galleries offering information to our visitors about our exhibitions, or facilitating our handling trolley to help bring our collections to life. You could help with educational activities and workshops for children of all ages!

Behind the scenes

You could be helping in our Collections department by photographing our objects and adding information about the object onto our database. You could be researching a variety of different topics for an exhibition or even compiling or creating local studies resources.

All we are looking for is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! When you register your interest a volunteer role profile will be sent to you. This will give you further information about the role, what we are looking for and what tasks you can expect to undertake.

Our volunteer familiarisation programme

We recruit volunteers on a needs-led, mutually beneficial basis.

We ask volunteers to complete our volunteer familiarisation programme before they begin their role. This consists of a 'Meet and Greet' session, an application form, an informal interview, training, and a defined trial period to allow you to find out more about your volunteer role.

Two references are taken as standard.

Expectations

You can expect to receive fantastic on-going training and support, volunteer social events throughout the year, additional one-off volunteering roles, and the opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of our museum via an annual volunteer forum.

Being part of our volunteer team is a rewarding and enriching experience – don't just take our word for it, view the volunteer profiles to see what our current volunteers think!

Current Opportunities

We are currently looking for friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic people to volunteer in public facing roles.

Opportunities include getting messy with our littlest visitors at craft sessions, inspiring wonder and curiosity by getting hands on with our objects, and even helping visitors with our costumes.

To find out more, come along to a ‘Meet & Greet’ session at Wrexham Museum on Monday, 20th March at either 10.30am or 12noon.

You’ll have the opportunity to find out more about our volunteer programme, the roles available and chat with current volunteers before you decide you want to join us!
