War and Peace: Philip Jones Griffiths and the Power of Photography
10.11.2018 – 02.03.2019
Philip Jones Griffiths was one of the most influential photographers of the late 20th century. Born and raised in North Wales, Griffiths was a lifelong pacifist and he sought to reveal the impact of war on combatants and civilians through his work.
This exhibition, a century on from ‘the war to end all wars’ concentrates on his photographs of two extended conflicts: the Vietnam War in south-east Asia and the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The prints, cameras, artefacts and correspondence on show are from the Philip Jones Griffiths archive held at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.
This exhibition is based on Philip Jones Griffiths: A Welsh Focus on War and Peace, the original larger exhibition curated by Mari Elin Jones and Jaimie Thomas at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, in association with the Philip Jones Griffiths Foundation.
Guest curators: Craig Colville and David Heke
Graphic design: Gavin Troth
