The Olympic Torch Relay is coming to Wrexham on the 30th May so don't miss out! Come along to Llwyn Isaf on the 30th May where the torch will arrive at 7.40am for a 30 minute stop. There will be a stage with performances taking place during the morning including Hula Nation, Body Popping, The Morgan Llwyd School Choir and local band Heal the Last Stand. From 7am there will be live entertainment including BMX tricks, ribbon dancers and street entertainers. Lots more performances will take place until 10am.

Local residents are invited to attend the celebration where the Worshipful The Mayor and Mayoress of Wrexham will raise the British flag to mark the garden officially open to the public. Queen Elizabeth will celebrate 60 years on the throne over the extended weekend on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th of June where thousands of people across the UK are expected to hold their own celebrations.

Carole Divall has devoted many years of painstaking research into telling the story of Thomas Atkins, the ordinary British soldier, during the Napoleonic campaigns, with a particular emphasis on the 30th Regiment of Foot. She has become a much sought-after speaker on this subject and the Friends of Wrexham Museums lecture gives the people of the Wrexham area a rare opportunity to hear her speak on their own doorstep. The lecture has been organised by the Friends of Wrexham Museums, a registered charity aimed at assisting with the preservation and presentation of all aspects of the history and culture of Wrexham County Borough.

Tuesday 18h September 2012 Open: 6pm to 8pm The talk will involve an explanation of the recent repair and renovation works undertaken to Church House, a grade II listed building in the historic settlement of Gresford, allowing guests to view the completed scheme on site. A fun weekend starting Friday 1st June with a karaoke night. Saturday day will be aimed at providing activities for children i.e. fun fair, bouncy castle, face painting, bucking bronco, refreshments and a BBQ (weather permitting). On Saturday night there will be a disco and karaoke. Sunday will be a repeat of Saturday and on Sunday night there will be a performance by a fantastic local band called 'Out of Order', Monday day will have young local upcoming bands through the day with a BBQ and karaoke at night. And finally on Tuesday afternoon there will be refreshments, sandwiches and bingo.

- Wrexham Prayer Week 2012 (Churches International Week)

Wrexham’s Olympic and Jubilee Celebrations 2012 Churches invite townsfolk to celebrate and pray Wrexham Churches are holding an International Week to co-incide with the town’s Olympic and Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. During the week of the visit of the Olympic Torch, town churches will be bedecked with bunting and hosting a ‘Wrexham and the World Week’, with prayer as a major focus. Over the Jubilee Weekend the church will be out on the streets. Activities climax with the Salvation Army hosting music and prayers in Queens Square at Noon on Saturday 2nd June and a Civic Service at St Marys cathedral at 3.30pm on Sunday 3rd June. Major Ian McCredie from Wrexham’s Salvation Army said ‘ We wanted to offer an opportunity to everybody to join together and spend a few minutes reflecting on the Queen’s life of service to our country and joining in a short prayer for Her Majesty right in the centre of our town, which is after all named Queen’s Square’ This Saturday event comes towards the end of a week when there are a series of meetings hosted at Wrexham Methodist Church, Regent Street, where the church will be arranging for continuous prayer for 7 days. The Minister of the Church, Rev. Richard Sharples said ‘ I wonder how many people have been in our modern ‘Upper Room’ church above the shops in Regent Street? There is a warm welcome there during the week of 27th May to 3rd June when the church is open every day and set out with a series of Prayer Stations where you can stop and reflect and pray. From Monday to Thursday night we have an opportunity to learn something about our world. On Monday we look at the modern day scourge of Human Trafficking, on Tuesday evening we hold a Youth night, on Wednesday we have an International evening and Thursday look at ways we can be a ‘good society’ here in Wrexham. Sunday evenings 27th May and 3rd June provide an opportunity for United Worship and prayer together. Why not come to Wrexham’s Upper Room and experience something special?’ Anyone wanting to know more details can ring the church on 361489, or just call in. The week’s activities are being organised by Churches Together (Cytun) and Mission Wrexham There will be some visits from school parties on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. At these times the preayer room will not be open to the public.

The Peninsular War was a six-year campaign by the British Army to expel French forces from Spain and Portugal two hundred years ago. ‘To War With Wellington’ tells the story of this less known, but historically important war, reveals its Welsh connections and includes rare memorabilia and original material on display for the first time in a public museum. - Diamond Jubilee Community Case Exhibition

To celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Wrexham County Borough Museum and Archives has worked with 6 separate community groups to create six individual displays. Each group chose a decade from the 1950s to the 2000s to represent each decade Her Majesty has reigned. The community cases are available to view during museum opening hours, from April until September 2012.

Bersham Ironworks was established in the early Eighteenth Century and worked until 1812. From 1763 under John 'Iron Mad' Wilkinson the ironworks became internationally famous for the manufacture of iron cannon and steam engine cylinders. What to expect: Self-guided tours and on-site interpretation of the archaeological remains. Coming soon: Guided tours including the Mill building. (Please enquire in advance for days/times of guided tours). Bersham Ironworks is open: 31 March - 26 October 2012.

Beer and lager, brick, tiles and terracotta; diamonds, leather, chocolate, chemicals, engines and motorbikes - all were produced in Wrexham and the surrounding district. This exhibition explores these once great industries and their impact locally and nationally.
