Bangor-on-Dee
Also known as Bangor Isycoed, Bangor-on-Dee is mostly famous as the home
of the picturesque country racecourse. However, it has a considerable
history, playing an important part in the early history of Christianity
within Britain. A large monastery flourished here from circa A.D 170 to
615. The pretty village is entered via an impressive bridge of medieval
origin, but largely 17th century, which is a scheduled ancient
monument. The bridge spans the majestic River Dee.
