Wrexham Thai kick Boxing Club

Thursday 7:30pm - 8:30pm

Wrexham Thai Boxing club has Classes at a number of locations in the Wrexham area. The sessions last from 1 hour up to two hours, depending on the venue and start time. Each session typically starts with 3 x two minutes rounds of skipping / jogging on the spot/shadow boxing, which is then followed with some warm up stretches and exercises.

Once this is complete we get down to the actual training. For a two hour session we start with pad work and then go on to do some sparring, or technique work. And finally at the end of each session we do a quick warm down, just as important as the warm up, to help protect your muscles and joints from injury after the exercise
Kickboxing, or American Kickboxing, originated in the USA in the 1970’s as a result of the limitations imposed on martial arts competitions not allowing full contact kicks and punches. In general the sport uses kicks, punches and kick blocks, with kicks permitted both above and below the waist (not to the groin area).

Muay Thai kickboxing is both a sport and Martial Art with it's roots in combat training over 2000 years ago and today as Thailand's most popular spectator sport. Sometimes known as the science of eight limbs because of the use of hands, elbows, knees and feet (shins) as weapons it is one of the most aggressive martial arts, mainly because of the way the techniques are applied. The use of the word aggressive should not be associated with violence however, as respect, discipline and self-control are highly important.

All Ages are welcome 6 - 60 yrs

For more information please contact Ian Stewart (Instructor) on (01978) 761147

Jeet Kune Do

Tuesday 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Based in Chester and north Wales, Gagnon Martial Arts Academy (GMAA) offers some of the most effective empty hand and weapon based martial arts training around today. We aim to offer what we believe is the best martial arts training around but in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There are no belt gradings in our academy, instead we opt for a 4 level system comprising of beginner, phase 1 intermediate, phase 2 intermediate and advanced level.
The 3 main areas of the curriculum are, Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Escrima and Indonesian Silat. All of the systems we use are well established and effective combat systems.
The GMAA curriculum is broken down into worksheets that students are guided through. This allows each student to work through their sheets at a pace suitable to themselves. The curriculum maintains a good sense of reality at each level. Once learned, the techniques are constantly trained to be maintained and improved upon for them to be effective in a combative situation.

From your first lesson you are taught basic combative priciples which are simple, direct and non classical. Econo my of motion, body mechanics, speed, timing and aggression combined with sensitivity are core to JKD.
All are welcome from juniors to adults

For more information contact Guru Lee Gagnon (Senior Instructor) 07941118414

The British Gymnastics' Award Scheme is an exciting new resource, It provides a structured progressive programme for the teaching of gymnastics.

The British Amateur Gymnastics Association is the only recognised Governing Body for the sport of gymnastics and trampolining within the UK. Gymnastics is the general term for the exercises and movements, this is then split into specific disciplines.

  • Men's Artistic Gymnastics
  • Women's Artistic Gymnastics#
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics
  • Sports Acrobatics
  • Sports Aerobics
  • General Gymnastics
  • Disabilities
  • Trampolining and Tumbling

Over the past years British Gymnastics has made substantial progress, with the standards of performance being improved at all levels and in all disciplines of British gymnastics.
Awards cover six sets of 10 exercises, graded from the simplest level - Award 7 and working up towards a more advanced level - Award 2.

Entrants must start with Award 7 and work through to Award 2 to ensure the correct progression as approved by the National Technical Committees (Our friendly club coaches). On each level, six out of the ten moves must be completed in order to progress to the next level.

For levels 7 to 2 there is a badge and certificate award available for each level. Once a participant has gained awards 7 to 2 they are entitled to send off for the Level 1 Award consisting of a badge, certificate and medal.

Trampoline Awards

The Trampoline Award Scheme has ten levels, starting at Level One and progressing to Level Ten. Each award has a badge and a certificate. Any trampolinist who achieves all ten awards will be eligible for a British Gymnastics Trampoline Medal.
