The Christmas Quiz

19th DECEMBER 2003

On the 19th December six bold teams from Llay met at the British Legion to battle it out for the glory of winning the Quiz.

The standard of questions set by the teams was high; the standard of answers was also high! But at last The Class of 66 were triumphant, beating teams from Llay Infants School , Llay W.I ., Llay History Society and The Country Park Rangers ..

Extra points were gained for style, for bribery, for bravery (the Infants school collected many bonus points by singing their answers!), or for having Llay's very own Father Christmas (also known as Mr Vernon Crewe) on the team.

The Rangers' Challenge proved easy for all the teams, who each had to make a plasticine model representing a Christmas Carol. Who will ever forget the W.I's version of 'While shepherds watched their flocks', using a plasticine sheep, a plasticine shepherd, and a rather expensive gold watch (get it?) belonging to one of the team.

A raffle with marvellous prizes, including a meat voucher generously donated by Llay's very own family butcher, Mr James, raised a generous £60 for the British Legion Poppy Appeal, which was presented to the Manager of the British Legion on the night.

Many thanks and much RESPECT to all who took part - it was a great evening!!
