Climbing Wall - Conditions of Use

  • These Climbing walls are used at your own risk; no responsibility is accepted for any accident, loss of or damage to personal possessions.

  • The climbing wall is unsupervised. Sports Centre staff cannot normally comment on your competence.

  • Prior to climbing you must complete a registration form on which you declare your competence to use the centre. Novice climbers and those unable to satisfy the minimum requirements for entry must be under constant supervision by an approved instructor, or competent adult member at all times whilst in the centre. You must register with the centre before climbing on every visit.

  • The centre reserves the right to refuse entry.

  • Ensure possessions are kept clear of the hazard areas, bouldering mats and fire escapes. Remove items from pockets prior to climbing, to prevent them from falling out at height.

  • Whilst on the ground you should remain aware of the fall potential of other climbers.

  • When not actually climbing / belaying keep clear of the tiled areas and bouldering mats.

  • Do not move or attempt to alter any holds.

  • Please report loose holds or damaged / faulty equipment immediately.

  • All accidents / incidents must be fully reported to a member of staff at reception immediately.

  • The centre reserves the right to stop individuals climbing if their behaviour or practice is considered unsafe to themselves or others.

  • Due to the nature of the activity we strongly recommend that you consider taking out your own personal accident insurance.

Bouldering

  • Soloing is only permitted in the designated bouldering area (with the crash mat). On other areas traversing below the 8' is permitted. No ascents to the balcony are permitted. Do not climb onto the top of the bouldering area.

  • When bouldering it is your responsibility to ensure there is adequate matting underneath the problem you are attempting.

  • When bouldering, be aware of the fall potential of others. Do not climb or sit beneath other climbers.

Roped Climbing

  • You must use a climbing sit-harness. The rope must be attached to this by a figure of eight or bowline knot, as indicated by the harness manufacturer.

  • You must not untie from the rope at any time whilst climbing on the walls.

  • When belaying you must use an appropriate belay method (no waist belaying).

  • Belayers should stand close to the wall and remain attentive whilst belaying.

  • Top ropes must not be removed to use on other routes.

  • Only top rope on lead routes when the climb has been completed and is correctly clipped in to the lower off point. You must ensure that the rope is clipped through sufficient quickdraws to prevent the second from swinging outwards in the event of a fall.

Leading

  • Leading is permitted only on designated lead routes.

  • When leading you must provide your own appropriate dynamic rope.

  • When leading your own quickdraws must be used and all bolts in sequence clipped.
