Purpose of the Play Network

  • To advocate for children’s right to play and raise the profile of play in Wrexham.
  • To identify barriers and restrictions on play at ground level and discuss creative ways of removing these.
  • To share experiences, advice and resources to support the development of new play opportunities.

Who can join?

Anyone who wants to be involved in supporting the creation of more opportunities for children and young people to play freely in Wrexham County Borough. This includes parents and carers, local community members, playworkers, early years workers and other professionals whose work impacts on play.

How does it operate?

The Play Network is facilitated by the WCBC Play Development Team and will meet at a minimum of four times per year. Each network event will have a different theme but they will always serve as a great opportunity to support each other, share information, discuss opinions and suggest ideas about the development of play in Wrexham.

The Play Network is represented at a strategic planning level by the Strategic Play Forum which includes representation from both the statutory and voluntary sectors. The Strategic Play Forum, with support from Play Network members, will lead on the implementation of the new Wrexham Play Strategy.

Members of the Play Network also help organise and facilitate Wrexham’s annual celebration of national Playday.

What happens then?

You will then be added to the WCBC Play Development Team’s mailing list and will receive regular email updates that include national and local developments within the play sector and invites to all future Play Network events. You will also be able to use it to ask for support from other Play Network members.
