The Broad aims of the Technical Department are:
Background
The post is a joint initiative between Wrexham County Borough Council
and Football Association of Wales (FAW)
Trust – Technical Department.
Wrexham is traditionally a strong Football area producing many professional
players including the National manager Mark Hughes and Robbie Savage Birmingham
City and Wales.
The County is unique, the only one in Wales, which has a professional
club, Wrexham Associate Football Club (AFC) playing in
the Blue Square Premier Conference Leagye and a JT Hughes Mitsibushi Welsh Premier
League side North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI) Cefn Druids.
With the history of Football within the area there is a great deal of
structured activity currently taking place in the area and therefore it’s
the development Officers role to ensure that current and future activities
fit into the National strategy for Football within Wales.
The National Programme consists of 5 main programme area:
Area Football
The objective of which is to increase participation in
association Football amongst all children of school age.
The key partners within the area are Wrexham Football in
the Community (junior school, Fun Centre and Fun week programmes), Flexsys
Cefn Druids (infant schools programme), Dragon Sport, local schools, Community
Clubs and Leisure Centres.
Women and Girls’ Football
The objective is to increase opportunities specifically
for women and girls to participate in Football.
With the assistance of Wrexham Football in the Community,
NEWI, Dragon Sport a girls’ league is in the process of being established
for teams within the County.
Coach Education Programme
The objective is to recruit, train and develop coaches
to support the development of players.
Locally the all the foundation level courses are available,
with guidance of how to access further courses from C licence to Professional
diploma.
Player Development Programme
The objective is to identify and support talented players
to develop their potential.
Due to the number of bodies with a vested interest in this
area a Player Development Forum for the area has been set up to ensure
that the players best interests are met. Representatives from NEWFA, Wrexham and District Youth Football League (WDYFL),
FAW Trust, Wrexham County Borough Council (WCBC), Welsh Schools' Football Association (WSFA) Primary and Secondary, Wrexham AFC and Flexsys Cefn
Druids.
Junior Club Development
The objective is to raise the provision for players within
their Junior Clubs through criteria set out in the Club Accreditation
Programme. This involves working closely with the WDYFL and identified
clubs.
