Wrexham County Borough Council Sports Awards 2019 Supported by Active Wrexham
Wrexham County Borough Council along with their Active Wrexham team would like to invite nominations for Wrexham County Borough Sports Awards 2019.
The presentation evening will take place on Friday 15th February 2019 at Brymbo Sports and Social Complex. Nominations are encouraged from individuals, sports clubs, schools and volunteers to ensure that the outstanding work and achievement of local people in Wrexham is recognised by the whole community.
The prestigious event highlights and values the excellent work of local people in local communities in and around Wrexham and recognises and honours the achievements of athletes, coaches and volunteers looking to achieve sporting excellence in Wrexham.
Nominations open on Monday 29th October 2018.
The closing date for all nominations is Friday 14th December 2018.
Awards will be presented in a number of categories as follows:
An individual who has achieved a high standard of performance in their chosen sport at Regional, National or International levels whilst at the age of 16 or under. The nominee must be 16 or under between 1st November 2017 – 31st October 2018.
An individual who has achieved a high standard of performance in their chosen sport at regional, national or international levels between 1st November 2017 – 31st October 2018.
An individual who has made significant contribution to community or school sport through performance, coaching, volunteering or who has shown a dedication to their club or sport for a sustained period of at least 10 years or more.
This award recognises the outstanding contribution of a coach to getting more people starting, staying and succeeding in sport and physical activity through high quality coaching within a school or community setting. This category is open to voluntary or paid coaches and they must hold a recognised coaching qualification. There are no age restrictions for nominees.
An individual with a disability who has achieved a high standard of performance in their chosen sport at Regional, National or International level between 1st November 2017 – 31st October 2018. There are no age restrictions for nominees.
We are looking for an individual who, on a voluntary basis, makes a difference to sport within a community or school setting. This may be helping an individual, group or teams. They give up their time to inspire, support and enable more people to participate in sport – by officiating at matches, running events, undertaking administrative or support roles. There are no age restrictions for nominees.
This award is for an organisation, school, group or club that has encouraged the people of Wrexham to participate in sport and physical activity. We’re looking for an organisation that has:
• Developed new participation initiatives, enabling more people to participate in sport
- Engaged with specific participant groups, for example, disabled people, BME, women & girls and those living in socially deprived areas
- Been innovative in their approach, using technology or ‘out of the box thinking’ to drive positive outcomes
- Utilised and developed a cohort of volunteers that contribute to the running and growth of the organisation
This award is for an individual nominated by exercise professionals from the National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS) within Wrexham. We are looking for an individual that has been active on the scheme between November 1st 2017 and October 31st 2018 and has made a significant difference to their health through physical activity and showing commitment and motivation to increase their activity levels whilst on the NERS programme.
