Sports Awards 2006
On 30th May 2006, Wrexham Sports Development in conjunction with Wrexham District Sports Council and the Wrexham Evening Leader held its 3rd annual Sports Awards Evening.
The aim of the evening is to honor and recognize the achievements and dedication shown by those people involved in sport in Wrexham. The event coincided with the national volunteer's week and helped us to raise the profile of local coaches and volunteers who work hard with sports clubs in the local community.
The Awards Evening was again held at the newly refurbished Brymbo Sports & Social Complex and was attended by over 350 people.
Huw Jones, Chief Executive of the Sports Council for Wales was guest speaker for the evening.
He spoke about the changing agenda of the Sports Council for Wales, to include greater focus on the health initiatives as way of getting more people more active.
Guests on the evening included competitors from Wrexham who represented Wales in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. A presentation was made to each of them by the Mayor of Wrexham in recognition of their achievements.
This years' awards attracted over 150 nominations from various sporting fields and a large amount of telephone votes for the Senior Sports personality of the year which run in the Wrexham Evening Leader.
