One of the key targets within the Welsh Assembly Government Strategy for Sport and Physical activity 'Climbing Higher' is to encourage mass participation in sport and physical activity and for people to take part in 5 x 30 minutes of exercise per week. In order to achieve an increase in the proportion of people taking moderate physical activity from 30% to 50% over the next 20 years, it will require 20,000 more people across Wales reaching this level of activity.
As part of the North Wales Outdoor Challenge all 6 local authorities throughout North Wales and the Sports Council for Wales have linked together to work collaboratively to develop at least 5 sign posted routes over the next 12 months throughout. The aim is to encourage people to take more exercise and physical activity more often. Each route will last approximately 30 minutes and the exercise could range from cycling, walking or jogging or even orienteering.
If you are currently not taking part in physical activity and want to undertake the Governments minimum recommendation of 5 x 30 minutes of activity per week a newly signposted walk has been launched at Alyn waters so why not download the route and try it today.
In the first of the five routes for Wrexham there will be a 30 minute walk around Alyn Waters (Llay Side) Country Park log onto www.northwalesoutdoorchallenge.co.uk to find the map and the walking route.
Your challenge is to log on to www.northwalesoutdoorchallenge.co.uk and find out where the other 5 x 30 routes are throughout Wrexham and North Wales.
