  PE and School Sport Project
The PE and School Sport project is a partnership scheme between the Welsh
Assembly Government and the Sports Council for Wales. The aim is to establish
one Development Centre in Wrexham county per year over a 3 year period.
What is a Development Centre?
A consortium of partner schools usually based around a secondary school and
it’s feeder primary schools. The Development Centre is managed in
partnership between the Development Centre manager and the PE and Schools
Sport Co-ordinator based in the local authority.
Priorities of a Development Centre are:

Raise standards in Physical Education and schools sport

Improve links between the Key Stages and develop Transition Policies
- focus on primary/secondary

Move towards 2 hours of quality curriculum PE across the key stage
-
Create additional opportunities for School Sport beyond the school
day
Promote Healthy and Active Lifestyles in line with the Healthy Schools
Network
Local Development Centre
The first development centre in Wrexham was established in Ysgol Rhiwabon
in September
2002 as a pilot scheme. Darland Development Centre was set up in April 2004.
