Wrexham County Swimming Scheme is currently developing it’s club links with both Wrexham Swimming Club and Chirk Dragons Swimming Club. In the swimming clubs swimmers can continue to follow the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) National Plan Stages 8-10 and other awards such as Competitive Start Award (Diving), Distance Badges, Speed Awards, Pre-competition Awards.
All swimmers currently in Stages 8-10 are invited to a swimming club taster session at their local club, this is another entry route into the clubs.
Swimming clubs have also been invited to attend several school swimming lessons (following consultation with schools and swimming teachers) as talent scouts to pick out any talented young swimmers. The club reps will also be making small presentations to the swimmers about their Club. The swimming clubs are also involved with the running of each school swimming gala, providing Lane judges, starters and Referees.
All children as part of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2 are required to participate in swimming lessons and the Government expects every child when they leave primary school to be able to swim 25m unaided. Therefore each swimming pool across the Borough provides school swimming lessons during term time Monday-Friday (days/times differ depending on pool). Some schools choose to bring Key Stages 1, 3 and 4 as well.
