Street Naming and Numbering
The Council's aim
The Council's aim in its Level of Service document is:
"To ensure streets are named and, where practicable, properties numbered prior to occupation."
This leaflet sets out the Council's Level of Service and provides guidelines for developers selecting street names for new developments.
Responsibility of the Developer
- To provide suggested street names prior to commencement of work on site. Please provide a choice in your order of preference; or
- To delegate responsibility to the local Community Council.
Responsibility of the Council
- To carry out consultations with Welsh Translation Service, Local member, Community Council and Address Management Service and reply back to you within 28 days.
Guidelines for Selecting Street Names
The proposed street name should be:
- Bilingual unless Welsh is proposed;
- Readily translated into Welsh; and
- Wherever practicable derived from historical, geographical or local connections in the area.
Further Information
In addition street names should end in the following suffix:
- For residential roads - road, street or way.
- For cul-de-sacs and small developments - crescent, close square, court or mews.
- For pedestrian access only - walk, path or way.
