The Church of St Chad is located within Hanmer Conservation Area. It is a late Perpendicular Church with stone battlements and nave, aisles chancel and west tower. The church was substantially rebuilt in 1889 after a terrible fire, when only the west tower and bare walls remained.

The chancel was rebuilt in 1770 and the remodelled arcading includes fragments of the 13th Century church that existed on the site. The church yard stone cross has octagonal tapering shafts supporting a carving including crucifixion scene and is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
