North Wales Road Safety Group

Road Safety Officers from the six North Wales authorities of Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham and representatives from the three emergency services and from the Wales Casualty Reduction Partnership, meet to discuss road safety throughout the year, in every month except August. The authorities pool some of their financial resources and all members share ideas to run campaigns. Group representatives and other members from the Road Safety teams and other agencies staff events and carry out educational and awareness raising initiatives e.g. at agricultural shows, eisteddfodau and in schools and colleges.

This group have been successful in collaborative media campaigns such as the adverts you may have heard on the local radio stations such as Heart FM 103.4.

Road Safety Wales

Road Safety Wales (external link) is a partnership between all 22 Local Authorities in Wales and/or agencies with the responsibility for local authority road safety promotion, the Welsh Assembly Government, the four Welsh Police Forces, the three Fire and Rescue services, Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Its mission is to further casualty reduction through collaborative working. It fosters co-operation and interaction between members.

National campaigns are planned and implemented and bilingual materials developed and made available to partners through this organisation. Individual partners share best practice and items, which they have developed. These have included road safety DVDs, road safety poetry or activity books and dramas scripted bilingually for schools or colleges.

As with the North Wales Road Safety Group, a central fund is made from contributions and economies of scale are gained as a result. The national distribution of publicity materials by partners increases the public’s chances of exposure to any given message, whilst also resulting in many media opportunities of press, radio and sometimes television.

For details of current or recent activities, read the news section of the Road Safety Wales (external link) website, which is updated regularly.
