Why does the Council have a long, drawn out process to follow
when they advertise for a job?
The main aim of this Council is to provide a high quality, cost effective
service for the community. Making sure we have the right person in the
right job helps us to achieve this. We use a structured process based
on ‘appointment on merit’ when we recruit and select new employees.

If I want to know more about the job where/who do I contact?
You’ll
find a contact name, job title and contact number on the job advertisement.
This person will have been involved in putting together the job requirements
and should be able to help you.

I’ve completed my application form but I didn’t
get invited for an interview. What do I do now?
If you have been unsuccessful or have not heard from us, you may
want to know why.
We provide feedback opportunities where you can discuss with someone
(usually the contact name in the advert) why you were not successful.
They’ll point out where they thought you did not meet the necessary
criteria for the job.

I’ve been asked on the application form to give names and
addresses of two referees.
Why does this happen and will it affect my position with my current employers?
In the majority of cases, any offer of employment is subject to satisfactory
references and medical clearance. However, there is a space on the application
form indicating your consent, or otherwise, for us to contact your referees.
If a job involves working with children or the elderly, there are
important Police Checks, which must also be carried out
before your appointment can be confirmed and before commencing employment.
If you wish to accept an offer of employment from us, you should not give notice
to your current employer until you have received notification from us
that everything is satisfactory.
