The Middle Ages is the term used to describe the period in Welsh history between the first incursions of the Normans in the late eleventh century and the union with England in 1536. Bersham Ironworks was established in the early Eighteenth Century and worked until 1812. From 1763 under John 'Iron Mad' Wilkinson the ironworks became internationally famous for the manufacture of iron cannon and steam engine cylinders. What to expect: Self-guided tours and on-site interpretation of the archaeological remains. Coming soon: Guided tours including the Mill building. Wrexham’s many industries put the town on the world map and a strong smell in the air. Beer and lager, brick, tiles and terracotta; diamonds, leather, chocolate, chemicals, engines and motorbikes - all were produced in Wrexham and the surrounding district. Carole Divall has devoted many years of painstaking research into telling the story of Thomas Atkins, the ordinary British soldier, during the Napoleonic campaigns, with a particular emphasis on the 30th Regiment of Foot. She has become a much sought-after speaker on this subject and the Friends of Wrexham Museums lecture gives the people of the Wrexham area a rare opportunity to hear her speak on their own doorstep. The lecture has been organised by the Friends of Wrexham Museums, a registered charity aimed at assisting with the preservation and presentation of all aspects of the history and culture of Wrexham County Borough.

Over the past 10 years, the Walled Garden at Erlas has been transformed from a forgotten and neglected area of land to a productive and therapeutic garden, through the activities of members of the community with disabilities. The Directors and friends of the Charity which have enabled this transformation to take place will talk about the history of Erlas, with photographs of the gardens in their heyday, followed by a tour of the gardens and the surrounding area. Tuesday 18h September 2012 Open: 6pm to 8pm The talk will involve an explanation of the recent repair and renovation works undertaken to Church House, a grade II listed building in the historic settlement of Gresford, allowing guests to view the completed scheme on site.
