Helfa Gelf at Undegun (launch)

Helfa Gelf Launch on the 5th September at Undegun from 7pm - 9pm Celebrating the 10th year of North Wales art trail at Undegun After a string of International Exhibitions Wrexham’s pop-up Gallery Undegun, is turning the spotlight on North Wales home-grown talent, as part of a unique project with Helfa Gelf/Art Trail. The month long celebration of Welsh Art invites the public not only to come along and see the work of our most creative residents at the gallery but also to take a tour across the region to see where the artists live and work. This September Undegun will be showcasing work from a large group of artists taking part in Wales’ biggest Open Studios art trail, Helfa Gelf 2015. Now in its 10th year, this free annual event is spread right across North Wales with studios taking part in Gwynedd, Conwy, Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham. It presents a unique chance for visitors to peek behind the scenes, experience this normally hidden world and get to chat to the artists and crafts people about their creative process and their studio spaces. Helfa Gelf mentions: “Helfa Gelf Art Trail is a fantastic opportunity for people to gain a real understanding of what goes into creating something. This year we are celebrating Helfa Gelf ’10 Years’ it will be our biggest and best yet. We think it is fantastic that the public are becoming more discerning and buying unique things that are produced in North Wales. It is such a boost to the local economy,” says Dawn Worsley project co-ordinator for the Helfa Gelf Art Trail. Like THIS Project who run the gallery, Helfa Gelf aims to encourage engagement & collaboration and break down barriers between artists and the public. This is the third consecutive year the two organisations have collaborated on an exhibition at Undegun. ‘Open Doors’ brings together over 30 artists and begins with a public launch on Saturday the 5th September at 7pm. The Exhibition will be on display until the 26th September. During their time at Undegun the exhibiting artists will be using the art space to create new work live in front of the public, with opportunities for everyone to get involved in workshop activities and learn new skills. During its time at Undegun the exhibition will feature a number of free workshops and talks, which are open to all abilities. You will receive a warm welcome from the artists wherever they are, and will join the ever-growing number of art enthusiasts who enjoy this yearly event – and remember, it’s all free. Social Value for Competitive Advantage Workshop

The introduction of the Public Services (Social Value) Act has seen a change in the way that public sector clients are procuring. Clients now have to ensure that they are achieving maximum value for money by selecting the most economically advantageous bidder. Phoenix Dance Theatre: Mixed Programme 2015

Mixed Programme 2015 features a double bill by one of the most influential figures in world dance, Christopher Bruce CBE including a brand new work, Shadows created by him especially for Phoenix Dance Theatre and a restaging of Bruce’s energetic study of life in the 1940’s, Shift. Having choreographed works for leading dance companies across the globe, this is the first time that Phoenix will perform any of this renowned choreographer’s work. The work also features two world premieres. Phoenix Artistic Director, Sharon Watson follows up her audience favourites Melt (2011) and Repetition of Change (2013) with TearFall, a new piece which is supported by the Wellcome Trust and builds on her exploration of science through dance using her simultaneously mesmerising and athletic choreography style. The fourth piece is Bloom by exciting new choreographer and one of the New Adventures Choreographer Award winners, Caroline Finn, whose work often presents darkly comic expressions of life and humanity using her playful, quirky and highly engaging choreographic style. Helfa Gelf at Undegun

Celebrating the 10th year of North Wales art trail at Undegun After a string of International Exhibitions Wrexham’s pop-up Gallery Undegun, is turning the spotlight on North Wales home-grown talent, as part of a unique project with Helfa Gelf/Art Trail. If you have an interest in becoming a part of Helfa Gelf please feel free to visit http://www.helfagelf.co.uk/en/contact/ or any questions about Undegun please feel free to visit www.thisproject.co.uk or send

New Tae Kwon Do Centre opening in Wrexham

Students and staff at Ady Jones’ Tae Kwon Do Academy are thrilled to have a new dedicated training venue open in Wrexham. Based on Wrexham Industrial Estate, the Family Martial Arts Centre is the first of its kind to open in Wrexham, and boasts a fully matted training area of over 2,400 square feet, as well as a fully enclosed mezzanine viewing area and cafe, changing facilities and a gym area. Dedicated to providing the highest quality of coaching and instruction, Master Ady Jones has a 6th Degree Black Belt and is a multiple World, European and National Champion. Ady says: “We are opening a facility that is much needed in the area and will benefit the Wrexham community, there is nothing else comparable to it in the whole of North Wales and with Tae Kwon Do being the UK’s fastest growing Martial Art, our town and the surrounding area was in much need of a safe and positive environment for adults and children to learn this fantastic sport.” Classes are available 7 days per week, with a full timetable that caters for children aged 3 years and up through to adults. Family classes are also available, so you can spend some quality time with the kids whilst learning new skills and keeping fit at the same time. The new centre will be hosting an open weekend on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September between 10am & 4pm Ady says all are welcome to stop by for a visit and see the new facilities.
