Inspire Hospital Youth Work Project

A partnership between Wrexham County Borough Council and the North East Wales NHS Trust.

The aim of the project is to provide support to young people aged 11-18 who have been admitted to Wrexham Maelor Hospital after self harming. Support may also be offered to vulnerable young people identified by staff.

Young people will usually be referred by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) who on assessment of a young person may feel it is appropriate to refer to the Youth Work in Hospital Team. Alternatively, a staff member on children or adult wards may contact the team to refer a young person who they consider to be vulnerable and would benefit from additional support. The young people referred to the team will be supported whilst in the Maelor and for up to eight sessions after discharge.

Inspire Youth Work in Hospital Project News

Refurbishment of young people’s room on children’s ward

Name(s) of Participants:,

Inspire, the Youth Work in hospital team, a big lottery fund project, has recently financed and organised the refurbishment of the Young People’s room for 11-15 year olds on children’s ward in Wrexham Maelor Hospital. They have provided new furniture and resources to enhance the facilities for Young People during their stay in hospital. This provides them with a space of their own which is comfortable and gives them a number of activities to take part in. It is a multi-functional room with space for them to relax – possibly watching TV/DVD’s, listen to music, join in group activities, play pool/table football, read, play on games consoles and many more. There is also a space for doing homework. There is something for everyone! The room was officially opened on 19th July by Mr Michael Williams (chairman BCUHB), Councillor Arfon Jones (lead member for children WCBC) and Lisa Stanley (Young person).
