Young Leaders receive Awards

On Sunday 11th September at Llay Park Resource Centre, Dewi Thomas Wrexham Youth Service Training Officer will present the certificates of achievement to nine young people who have completed an extensive young leaders youth work training programme. Influenced by positive experience of youth work received in youth clubs, youth projects and youth work delivered in schools by Wrexham Youth Service, several young people from various districts of Wrexham have engaged in the programme that has incorporated the key skills of communication, working with others and problem-solving. The young leaders have been introduced to the core principles and practice of youth work with an emphasis on reflective practice to prepare them to work as volunteers for Wrexham Youth Service providing an opportunity for them give something back to the communities in which they have experienced positive youth work.

For the first time this year the Young Leaders Programme has provided a stepping-stone for young people to start the OCN Level Two Award in Youth Work that will qualify the young leaders to apply for Level One Youth Support Worker posts. Les Williams the Programme Tutor and Zone Leader for Wrexham North (B) says that it has been a joy delivering the programme to enthusiastic young people most of whom have subsequently enrolled onto the O.C.N. Level Two Award in Youth Work.
