Our Grow Our Own Talent apprentice scheme has been set up to ensure we have a skilled pool of candidates working across our services in the coming years.

We have developed apprentice schemes throughout the council which support different backgrounds, and provide a range of work experiences with opportunities to achieve qualifications in your preferred career.

We can offer you valuable work experience and support to develop your skills, expertise and knowledge with the aim of gaining permanent employment with us.

Corporate Apprentice Scheme (2 years)

As a corporate apprentice you will be supported by Coleg Cambria and our workforce development team to complete your work-based learning NVQ qualification, and have the opportunity to progress to a higher level.

To ensure you get the best experience and development, your placement will be across a range of service areas over a two year period. We will identify a manager/mentor to guide you along your placement, making sure you get well-being and job role support to allow you to perform to the best of your ability and gain as much experience as possible.

As an apprentice you will get to:

  • Earn a wage - £12,346.00
  • Spend time with experienced staff
  • Study towards a job related qualification 
  • Receive paid holidays and get the same benefits as other employees
  • Work for approximately 37 hours per week

Who can apply?

You can apply for the Corporate Apprentice Scheme if:

  • You are 16 years of age or over
  • You are not, or will not be in full time education for the upcoming September
  • You are looking to transition from student life to working life
  • You are unemployed and want to try something new
  • You have the right work approach, values and behaviours – trust, respect, integrity, flexibility, innovation and commitment
  • You have at least 5 GCSE’s grade C or above (or equivalent) including Welsh or English Language and Maths

  • Housing
  • Education and Early Intervention Services

Environment Traineeship Scheme (2 years)

Our two year scheme offers you valuable work experience opportunities and supports you to develop your skills and knowledge, whilst working towards achieving permanent employment with us. Our traineeship combines office and on site work, giving you skills and experience and building your confidence.

As a trainee you will get to:

  • Earn a wage (Year 1– G02, £22,366, Year 2 – G03, £22,737)
  • Spend time with experienced staff and quickly gain practical skills
  • Receive paid holidays and get the same benefits as other employees
  • Work for 37 hours per week 
  • Gain skills from a variety of placements throughout our Environment and Technical department

You can apply for the Housing Craft Apprentice Scheme if:

  • You are 16 years of age or over
  • You are not, or will not be in full time education for the upcoming September
  • You are looking to transition from student life to working life
  • You are unemployed and want to try something new
  • You have the right work approach, values and behaviours – trust, respect, integrity, flexibility, innovation and commitment
  • If you have a preference for learning through work experience

Year 1 placements

During the first year you will be on four placements. These will be within:

  • Waste and recycling
  • Highways maintenance
  • Business support
  • Projects

Year 2 placements

During the second year you will be placed on four placements of your choice from the following:

  • Waste and recycling
  • Waste strategy
  • Contracts and engineering
  • Transport
  • Highway maintenance
  • Enforcement
  • Carbon reduction
  • Business support
  • Fleet management
  • Projects
  • Crematorium and cemeteries
  • Street works
  • Open space
  • Street lighting
