Our Planning, Building Control and Land Charges services are currently implementing a new ICT software package system that will be used to process applications and enquiries.

This is due to go live on May 28, 2024. This may result in some disruption and delays in the initial processing of applications and enquiries for any applications submitted after May 13, 2024.

If you have any further queries or require any further advice please contact landcharges@wrexham.gov.uk

Local land charge searches are used to find any restrictions and legal obligations affecting a piece of land, as part of the conveyancing process.

We (Wrexham Council) have a statutory duty under the Local Land Charges Act 1975 to maintain a Register of Local Land Charges.

You can request a search enquiry response through the following methods:

1. Submitting a local authority search

Searches can be submitted by post and document exchange (DX) or online via The National Land Information Service (NLIS).

When submitting a postal Local Authority Search, make sure you include the following:

  • Form LLC1 in duplicate
  • Form CON29 in duplicate
  • The correct fee (see fee schedule below)
  • A plan which clearly marks the outline of the area to be searched against in red and shows the surrounding roads/properties

Payment must be made the same or following working day to validate the application. The easiest way to pay is through our online e-store.

Pay now

A payment receipt is automatically emailed to you for your records, as well as being sent to us so that we can start to process your request.

Turnaround times

The current turnaround time for searches is 7-10 working days.

We do not charge a separate fee for expedited searches, but should a search request be considered urgent please contact the land charges team and we will aim to give the search priority.

The National Land Information Service (NLIS)

The NLIS is a government initiative aimed at delivering services electronically, with the ultimate aim of speeding up the conveyancing process by using electronic transactions.

The service connects law firms, conveyancers and data providers such as HM Land Registry and local authority Local Land Charges Registries.

We are connected to NLIS at level 2, meaning we can receive search applications/fees electronically and also return them electronically.

We encourage the users of our service to become NLIS users. To find out more (including fees) visit the NLIS website.
