Becoming a British citizen is an important and significant lifetime event and participating in a citizenship ceremony is the final step.

Our ceremonies take place in Wrexham’s Guildhall, which provides the perfect setting for new citizens to celebrate the occasion with their family and friends.

How do I apply for citizenship?

You will need to apply for British citizenship through the Home Office (a department of the UK government). Find out more about British citizenship, including how you can apply if you’re eligible, on the UK government website.

About citizenship ceremonies

What happens at a ceremony?

The ceremony begins with a welcoming speech. You will then be invited to swear an oath or make an affirmation of allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen.

You will also make a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom before being presented with your citizenship certificate and gift from a local dignitary.

Can any applicant attend a ceremony in Wrexham?

Yes. Any person residing in the UK can choose to have their ceremony with us. To do this, simply indicate ‘Wrexham’ as your preferred ceremony location on your Home Office application form.
