Register to provide the Childcare Offer for Wales

If you are a childcare provider operating within Wrexham you can apply to provide the Childcare Offer in Wales (you’ll need to be registered with Care Inspectorate Wales first).

How is the childcare provided through the Offer?

During term time, as a childcare provider you could provide up to 20 hours a week of funded childcare for 3 year olds who are eligible to access Early Education, and 17.5 hours a week of funded childcare for children aged 3 and 4 who are eligible to access Foundation Phase Nursery. Children can access the funding for up to 48 weeks of the year. If you don’t provide holiday care the parent/carer can access the funding for the holiday weeks at another childcare setting.

Children can access up to nine weeks of 30 hours of childcare during school holidays. This is calculated pro-rata.

How is the Offer funded?

The Offer is Welsh Government funded. The rate for the Offer is £4.50 per hour across all types of provision and this is paid monthly directly to your setting.

Additional Learning Needs Support funding

For children with additional needs who access the Childcare Offer there is further funding available. This funding can be used for a variety of purposes to enable the child to access the childcare provision, such as adapted chairs or play equipment, other resources or training for staff. It could also be for an additional member of staff to support the child.

Applications should be submitted to the Disability Respite and Childcare Panel.

How can I register my childcare setting?

You can register to accept children from Wrexham, as well as from other Welsh counties (although a separate application is required for each county).

If you’d like to register to provide the Childcare Offer, or if you need help or further information, contact the Childcare Team at WFIS by emailing childcareteam@wrexham.gov.uk or by calling 01978 292094.

Wrexham County Borough Council Childcare Sufficiency Assessment

We have a statutory duty under the Childcare Act 2006 to secure as far as is reasonably practicable, sufficient childcare for children to meet the requirements of working parents/carers, or parents/carers undertaking education or training that will lead to work.

A key part of this duty is the requirement to complete a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA) every five years, which assesses the supply of, and demand for, childcare in the local authority area. The objective of the CSA is to identify gaps in the provision of childcare and set out actions to narrow these gaps moving towards a position of ‘sufficiency’ across the county borough.

Recommendations from the CSA and the annual reviews that follow, are used to develop an action plan, which details the actions that we will take (along with our partners) to fulfil our statutory duty.
