This is a grant for the refurbishment and redevelopment of retail and commercial properties.

The aim of the grant is to help towards the regeneration of Wrexham city centre to support the economy of the area.

These grants have been developed with and funded by the Welsh Government.

Eligibility

Grants of up to £50,000 are available to help with external capital improvements to retail and commercial properties within Wrexham city centre.

This grant is for retail and commercial buildings within Wrexham city centre only. It is currently not available for buildings elsewhere in the county borough.

It is a retrospective grant meaning it would be provided after works are completed (so you would need to have the financial means to pay for the works initially).

Grants can be used towards external works to the building frontages, including:

  • shopfronts
  • improved display windows
  • signage improvements
  • windows and doors
  • roofs and chimneys
  • rendering
  • structural works

Internal works would only be eligible for funding as part of a comprehensive package or external improvements.

Any works to improve the energy efficiency of the building (for example, enhanced insulation) will also be eligible - as part of a package of external capital improvement works.

Who can apply?

You can apply if you are the owner of a retail or commercial property.

You can also apply if you are the leaseholder of a retail or commercial property with at least 7 years left on the lease on the date of the application, and you have your landlord’s written consent to the proposed works.

How does the grant work?

Applications will be assessed on a case by case basis and considered in terms of:

  • eligibility
  • value for money based on outputs / outcomes to be achieved and in line with the scheme’s aims and objectives

Successful grants will be paid after the works are completed and you have provided supporting documents (including invoices or receipts).

Successful projects must be completed no later than February 28, 2024.
