Ceremony update - August 2020

From August 3 2020, we are now able to provide ceremonies in the Guildhall that have already been booked.

Also, if a booking has already been made for our registrars to officiate at a ceremony at one of our approved premises, our registrars will attend, if the venue demonstrates compliance with the guidance and can provide a COVID-secure environment.

Government guidance requires changes to be made to ensure the safety of those attending ceremonies. This includes ceremonies may only take place in COVID-secure environments. Ceremonies should be concluded in the shortest reasonable time and the number of attendees should be kept to a minimum to reduce the risks of spreading coronavirus.

Anyone experiencing coronavirus symptoms listed below should not attend:

  • high temperature

Details of all guests attending will be requested prior to the ceremony to assist with contact tracing and all personal information collected will be handled in accordance with our COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Privacy Notice.

Birth registration announcement

We can now confirm that Wrexham Registration Service will re-commence registration of births on Monday 3 August 2020, for babies born in Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Wrexham.

To keep customers and staff safe during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and to use our limited resources in the best way possible, we have made changes to our registration services.

Due to the volume of births requiring registration, we have arranged the following:

If you live in Flintshire but your baby was born in Wrexham, please contact Flintshire Registration Service on 01352 703333. This will be for an interim period and you will be able to conduct a full birth registration at that office and receive your certificates as required.

If you live in Wrexham and all other areas, please contact 01978 298997 to arrange an appointment in Wrexham. Please be aware that payment for certificates will be required when making the appointment.

Your appointment will take around 20 minutes and there is no charge.

Birth registrations are required to be carried out at a face-to-face appointment with a registrar. For your safety, we have introduced measures such as hand sanitiser and gloves, and we will be using a larger room to allow social distancing.

We ask for your patience at this time, as we are expecting a high level of calls due to the demand for this service.  With this in mind, please adhere to the guidelines outlined above.

Requests made for appointments via email will not be accepted.

Registering births and claiming Child Benefit / Universal Credit

You can now make a claim for Child Benefit or Universal Credit before you register your child’s birth. Under normal circumstances, the birth must be registered before you make a claim, but the rules have been changed due to the current situation.

All appointments at the Guildhall for marriage / civil partnership notices have been suspended until further notice.

Certificate requests will now be minimised to the following only:

    • Required for employment purposes – posted no collection, card payments only
    • Required for benefit purposes – posted no collection, card payments only
