Demand for Welsh Lang Swimming lessons

In line with Standard 86 the Council is required to publish details of any assessments it undertakes to assess the need for a course to be delivered through the medium of Welsh. In December 2016 the Council completed a needs assessment to determine how many of the County Borough’s residents would want swimming lessons delivered in Welsh. This was done via a hard copy of the questionnaire being sent to each primary and secondary school in the County Borough in October 2016, the questionnaire being made available at the leisure centres, a copy being made on both the Council and Freedom Leisure’s websites and supported with a social media campaign to ensure as many forms were returned as possible.

19,676 forms were sent to the schools and 343 were returned. Unfortunately it is not possible to identify how many of these forms were returned from the schools and ones available as hard copies in the centres and online.

Of these, 41 parents/guardians noted that they would like lessons delivered in Welsh which equated to 12%
